Former Goa Minister Somnath Juwarkar passes away, CM Pramod Sawant expresses grief

The corona epidemic has engulfed the world and the coronavirus infection is spreading rapidly in India. Meanwhile, former Goa Minister Somnath Juwarkar has died of corona infection. Sources said Juwarkar was admitted to a private hospital here where he was being treated after his report came to corona positive. He reportedly passed away the previous night. He was 74 years old.

 

 

He represented Talaigaon assembly constituency near Panaji from 1989 to 2002. He contested and won on a Congress ticket. Juwarkar had served as minister of civil supplies, cooperation, and transport in governments led by Pratap Singh Rane and Francois Sardina.

Meanwhile, Goa CM Pramod Sawant tweeted his deep sorrow. He said, "Deeply saddened by the death of former Goa Cabinet Minister Shri Somnath Juwarkar. I have deep condolences to the family in this hour of grief. May God give them the strength to bear this great loss. On the other hand, with nearly three lakh new cases of corona infection in the country, the total number of infected people has increased to 1,56,16,130, while the death toll due to 2,023 more deaths has gone up to 1,82,553. According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, 2,95,041 new cases of infection have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the number of patients under treatment to more than 21 lakh.
