Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has taken many important decisions due to the outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19). On Monday, orders have been issued to keep all the zoos of the state closed till 31 March. A spokesman of the Chief Minister's Office said that this decision has been taken as a precaution to avoid any problem arising due to Covid-19.

There is a big Ju in Chhatbeer near Chandigarh and in addition, there are four more small zoos in Punjab near Patiala, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Samrala. On average, about 4000 tourists/spectators visit them daily, while in the last days of the week, the number of visitors here comes to around 10,000.

This number increases further during the summer and winter seasons and holidays. The Wildlife Authority is using every kind of precaution regarding zoological safety parameters in the zoo. According to the guidelines of the state government, the Wildlife Department has decided to take this step in the larger interest of the people as preventive measures. Initially, orders have been issued to keep the zoos closed till March 31, which will be reviewed later.
