New Delhi: Corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar has been remanded to judicial custody by a Delhi court. The lobbyist is in judicial custody in connection with the Talwar aviation scam. After the expiry of the custody period of Deepak Talwar's interrogation, the CBI produced him before the court from where Special Judge Arvind Kumar remanded him to judicial custody. The investigating agency told the court that the accused need not be questioned any more. Earlier, the investigating agency had detained Talwar from the court on July 26 as the judge had rejected his anticipatory bail application.
The corporate lobbyist Talwar was produced before the court on July 26 for a muscular warrant. He was in judicial custody in a money laundering case related to the scam. According to the agency, Talwar had played a middleman role to negotiate in favour of foreign private airlines, including Qatar Airways, Emeritus and Air Arabia, and then Air India was denied a profitable route and time. The deal took place when the Congress-led National Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the Centre was in power.
CBI has earlier told the court that it has to find out the names of officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, National Aviation Company of India Limited and Air India who had assisted foreign airlines. The then air minister Praful Patel is also under investigation in the case.
