Hyderabad: Corporator Gadwal Vijayalakshmi was elected as the new mayor of GHMC. Vijayalakshmi, the daughter of K.K.S.V.Rao, a senior leader of the ruling TRS party, was elected as a corporator for the second time from The Division of Vijayalakshmi Vijayanagara Division and this time she sat on the mayor's chair.

Keshav Rao's daughter Vijayalakshmi's childhood and education was done in Hyderabad. After finishing tenth in Holly Mary School, she studied at Reddy Women's College. He later studied journalism in the Indian Education Building. Later, he completed llb from Sultan ul Lum Law College.

Vijayalakshmi married Bobby Reddy. After marriage, she lived in the US for about 18 years. There she worked as a research assistant in the department of cardiology at the University of North Carolina, one of the five largest universities in the United States.

In 2007, Vijayalakshmi returned to India and came to politics. Vijayalakshmi won the first time as a corporator to The Barren Hills on the TRS ticket in 2016. Since then she has been working for the development of the Janaji division. Vijayalakshmi, who won the second term in the recent GHMC elections, has now become the mayor of Hyderabad.

Mote Srilatha was elected as deputy mayor in the GHMC elections.
