Bangalore: Voting for 25 legislative council seats from 20 local bodies (Civic Bodies) in Karnataka is being counted today on Tuesday. The election results will have a direct impact on the equation of parties in the 75-member Upper House, where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying to win a majority. State that the Legislative Council elections were held on December 10.
The term of 25 Legislative Council members (MLS) of the state ends on January 5, 2022, so elections needed to be held. These include 14 Congress, 7 BJP and four Janata Dal (Secular) legislative councillors (MLC). According to election officials, counting is underway at about 20 centres across the state and the situation is expected to be clear by noon or evening. Out of 90 candidates for the election, 20-20 candidates are from BJP and Congress, 6 from JD(S), 33 from independents and other smaller parties.
Only one of these candidates is a woman candidate who is contesting from Chikmagalur. Meanwhile, the BJP's tally in Tuesday's counting is looking heavy. The BJP has now won 4 of the 6 declared seats. While 1 seat has come into the account of Congress and 1 seat has come into the account of JDS. According to media reports, the BJP is currently leading in about 10 seats. At the same time, Congress is also leading in 7 seats. According to the latest information, BJP is leading in 12 seats, Congress on 9 and JDS in 1 seat.
