Coal to be made from WASTE, Bhopal to have country's second such plant

New Delhi: Bhopal is set to become the second city in the country after Varanasi where the dry waste will be used to make torified charcoal. It is used for power generation. This could prove to be a major step for the future in view of the shortage of coal for power generation. An agreement was signed between NTPC and the municipal corporation in the presence of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and other officials. Corporation Commissioner VS Chaudhary Kolsani signed the contract.

Under the contract, Bhopal Municipal Corporation will provide 15 acres of land in Adampur Cantonment to NTPC. 400 tonnes of dried waste every day will make torified charcoal. NTPC will spend Rs.80 crores on this. More importantly, the entire amount that the Corporation spends every year on the execution of dry waste will be saved. Recently, NTPC has entered into a similar agreement with Varanasi Municipal Corporation to make similar lying verified charcoal. In fact, NTPC wanted to set up a similar plant in Indore, but could not find land.

Earlier on Monday, Bhopal RNG Private Limited and municipal corporation signed an agreement to make bio-CNG from 200 tonnes of wet waste. The company will pay a royalty of Rs.83 lakh per annum to the Corporation for 20 years and also get bio-CNG at the rate of Rs.5 less than the market price. The company will spend Rs 40 crore on setting up the plant. The special thing is that the corporation currently spends 2 crores 43 lakh 9 thousand rupees per year on the disposal of wet waste, this amount will also be saved. UADD principal secretary Manish Singh and department commissioner Nikunj Kumar Srivastava were also present at the time of these contracts.
