NEW DELHI: In the Aircel-Maxis deal case, Delhi's Rouge Avenue Court has extended the stay on the arrest of former Finance Minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram till August 23. The court is likely to take cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI on September 6.

It may be mentioned that the court is currently hearing karti and P Chidambaram's anticipatory bail plea and opposing the anticipatory bail by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI. The ED and the CBI have said that they need custody of both of them to carry forward the investigation and interrogate the accused.

The court had slammed the CBI and ED for not obtaining government permission so far to take action against the accused. The court had reprimanded the investigating agencies and said that if the government does not get permission to take action against the names registered in the charge sheet till the next hearing of the case, the court will not take cognisance of the charge sheet filed by the investigating agencies. In the last hearing, the Centre had given permission to prosecute P Chidambaram.
