Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has deferred the arrest of IPS Rajiv Kumar in the Saradha scam case for a week. Former Kolkata Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has been directed by the High Court to appear before the CBI in the scam and cooperate in the probe. The vacation bench of the High Court had on May 30 granted interim protection to Kumar from his arrest till July 10. Later, the period was extended till 22nd July.

Kumar's arrest was coming to an end on Monday, which was extended by Justice Madhumati Mitra by a week or so. The court has adjourned the hearing on Kumar's plea seeking quashing of the CBI notice in May. The CBI had directed Kumar to appear before the agency and cooperate in the investigation into the Saradha chit fund case. The former police commissioner is currently additional Director General of West Bengal CID.

The CBI conducted searches at 11 locations in three states, including the national capital, on Monday in connection with the probe into the Saradha scam. Officials said, the raid was carried out at the hideouts of directors and promoters of Chakra Infrastructure Limited in North 24 Parganas of Bengal, Patna in Bihar, Agartala in Tripura and New Delhi. Several documents were recovered during the raid.
