A special CBI court sent Karti Chidambaram to three-day judicial custody and scheduled arguments on junior Chidambaram’s bail plea on March 9. CBI submitted some documents pertaining to the probe conducted during Chidambaram’s five days of custody in a sealed envelope. In the court-room, CBI also submitted the confession of Indrani Mukherjee about paying a bribe to Karti in order to get FIPB approval.

CBI counsel Tushar Mehta submitted ‘fresh’ evidence against Karti Chidambaram. The evidence brings a new company into the picture and shows global transactions done in dollars, said Mehta. He termed the evidence as ‘concrete’ and was sure that the court will grant custody to the investigating agency for nine more days.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had presented Karti Chidambaram at a court in Delhi and sought his custody for nine more days. According to Tushar Mehta, Karti Chidambaram was not co-operating with the investigation and the only statement he has made is “I’m being politically targeted.”

The court allowed Chidambaram to meet his father P. Chidambaram and mother Nalini Chidambaram for 10 minutes.

Karti Chidambaram was arrested for his involvement in INX Media case on March 1 and was sent to five days judicial custody by CBI court citing the need to unearth the larger conspiracy in the case and his presence would serve an important purpose.
