New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Delhi Police on a petition filed by the co-founder of the controversial website AltNews, Mohammed Zubair, seeking its response. Zubair in his petition had challenged the validity of his police remand in a case related to an allegedly objectionable tweet posted against Hanuman Ji in 2018.
On Zubair's plea, Justice Sanjeev Narula issued notice to the Delhi Police and gave the investigating agency two weeks' time to file its response to the petition. Zubair has challenged the Patiala House Court's June 28 order, in which Zubair has been sent to police custody for four days.
Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police on June 27 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through one of his tweets and on the same day, the lower court sent Zubair to one-day police custody. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Sarvaria had extended Zubair's custody for another four days after he was produced after the expiry of his one-day custody period.
