New Delhi: Former Union Minister and BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand accused of rape has been sent to judicial custody by a court in Shahjahanpur, UP. Earlier on Friday morning, Chinmayananda was arrested by UP Police and SIT from his house. Chinmayanand was presented in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court amid tight security. The court has ordered him to be sent to Shahjahanpur jail for 14 days of judicial custody.

UP DGP OP Singh told the press persons after the arrest of Chinmayananda that, 'We had formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following the apex court's direction. After investigation, we arrested Swami Chinmayananda from his ashram and now he has been sent to jail. There is no delay in action in this case. Along with this, the police have also arrested three other people in charge of threatening Chinmayananda for recovery.

The demand for Chinmayanand's arrest had gained momentum since the victim's videos were released. The UP Police and SIT arrested him from Mumukshu Ashram in Shahjahanpur. He was rushed to the hospital for medical examination before appearing in court. He was questioned extensively by the SIT in this matter. Let us tell you that the victim student had threatened to commit suicide if Chinmayananda was not arrested.
