JNU treason case: Court summons to 9 including former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar

New Delhi: A Delhi court has issued summons to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) president and CPI leader Kanhaiya Kumar to appear before it on 15 March in a sedition case. In this case, the Delhi Police was allowed to file the charge sheet last year. Apart from Kanhaiya Kumar, the court has also sent a summons to nine other accused.

The police claimed in its charge sheet that on 9 February 2016, on the anniversary of the Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru, anti-national slogans were raised in the JNU campus led by Kanhaiya Kumar. Taking cognizance of the charge sheet against nine people including Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya, Patiala House Court Judge Dr. Pankaj Sharma said, "On 27th February last year, the Home Department of Delhi Police allowed the filing of the sheets"

The judge further said that "taking cognizance of the charge sheet of Delhi Police, a summons has been sent to all the accused to appear before it on 15 March 2021". Let us tell you that all the accused including Kanhaiya Kumar are charged under Section 124A, 323, IPC. Chargesheet has been filed under 465, 471, 143, 149, 147, 120B. On 9 February 2016, slogans like "Bharat tere tukde karenge InshaAllah", and "Afzal we are ashamed, your slayer is alive" on the JNU campus.
