NEW DELHI: In Sunanda Pushkar death case today Court summoned Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on July 7 as an accused.

According to TOI sources Congress leader Shashi Tharoor will face trial in the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, as a Delhi court ruled today.

Today, a Delhi court set the date for his summons after taking cognizance of the charge sheet lodged in thehis wife Sunanda Pushkar death case.

"There exist sufficient grounds to proceed against Tharoor for commission of offences in the case," noted the court.

Worth mention here Last month, four years after Pushkar was found dead in suite number 345 of the Leela Hotel, the Delhi Police lodged a charge sheet and named her husband and senior Congress MP Tharoor as an accused in the case. According to the charge sheet, Pushkar killed herself by consuming an overdose of antidepressant pills, alprazolam (Alprax), and was driven to taking the extreme step by her husband.

Although it was a murder investigation with the FIR filed under IPC Section 302 (murder), police have imposed charges on Tharoor under Sections 306 (abetment) and 498A (cruelty by husband) of the Indian Penal Code.

It is noted that the 3,000-page final report, formed under the supervision of police commissioner Amulya Patnaik, which names Tharoor in column 11 (details of accused). The reasons for naming him are the situation preceding Sunanda's death and the injury marks on her body which were made stronger by the statement of Tharoor's staffer, Narain Singh, who said there had been exchange of blows between the couple.
