New Delhi: The case related to former Special Director of Central Investigation Agency (CBI) Rakesh Asthana will now be heard on 9 October. The CBI has sought more time from the Delhi High Court to investigate the matter. The High Court gave the CBI time till September 30 to investigate the alleged corruption case. The CBI had demanded that he be given more time to investigate the matter.

It is noteworthy that Rakesh Asthana has been special director of CBI. In October last year, the CBI filed a bribe case against the then CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana. In a case of money laundering, Asthana was charged with taking a bribe from meat trader Moin Qureshi to settle the case.

The investigating agency had said that an FIR was lodged on October 15 against Rakesh Asthana, Devendra and two other persons, Manoj Prasad and Someshwar Prasad, following a complaint by Hyderabad's Satish Babu. The CBI had alleged that bribes have been taken at least five times between December 2017 and October 2018. After this, Asthana moved the High Court for the interim relief from arrest in the charges of bribe levied on him and to quash the FIR.
