New Delhi: The High Court on Tuesday expressed strong displeasure over the failure of municipal corporations to control the growth of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and chikungunya in Delhi. The court said that his earlier directions to control it have not yet fallen on the deaf ears of the authorities. Continuing, the court said that no deficiency has been taken to prevent dengue at the grass root level but the corporation's work has been restricted to collecting taxes and paying salaries to employees.

A bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh expressed dissatisfaction over the increase in dengue cases and measures to prevent it and asked South MCD advocate Sanjeev Sagar what you are doing, so many dengue cases. You are not doing anything. You just need salary. What do you do with this salary and amount? The bench expressed concern over the municipal corporation not taking any progressive steps at the grass root level to tackle the dengue issue. Further, the bench said, "How can it be that dengue is on the rise every year?" Is it not the job of the municipality to stop it?

The bench questioned whether it is a rocket science that there will be mosquitoes after monsoon. Dengue will happen This is a pattern for the last 15 to 20 years. How can it be that every time you argue that you have very little staff? In fact, you have more staff. The Bench has said, "Is it that the Municipality has given up everything and it is only the emphasis on collecting taxes and paying salaries?" If they don't work, why do they expect salary? Not only that, the bench questioned the advocate as to how many people have been served dengue mosquitoes and checkers show cause notices for dereliction of duties. Obviously your mosquito checkers, breeders don't want to do anything. They are not going to the ground. Maybe they're just registering their presence and you're paying them.
