Geneva: The World Health Organization (WHO) is soon to take a major decision on emergency clearance for India Biotech's Coronavirus vaccine Covaxin. The organization's leading scientist Soumya Swaminathan has informed that the approval for the use of the vaccine will be given in the next 4-6 weeks.

In a webinar organized by CSE on Friday, Swaminathan said that Bharat Biotak is now uploading complete vaccine data on the portal, which is being examined and reviewed by WHO. As per the guidelines of the WHO, the EUL process allows the use of new or unlicensed products so that they can be used in emergency situations arising out of health.

Swaminathan further said, "EUL has to go through a process and in order to get vaccine clearance, the company has to submit data on three-phase trials, which are examined by experts under WHO and then approved. At present, corona vaccine Pfizer/Bionic, Astrazeneca-SK Bio/Serum Institute of India, AstraZeneca EU, Jansen, Moderna, and Sinoform have been sanctioned by the WHO for use of emergency.
