Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison will write letters to Australians asking them to schedule coronavirus booster shots as soon as feasible, as the country is still fighting the third wave of the pandemic.

According to sources, Morrison stated booster doses were the key to keeping Australia open and preventing a disastrous fourth wave of Covid-19 infections in his letter to every Australian home.

"We are now reopening, our economy is strongly re-emerging, and people can get back to seeing family, travelling, and enjoying a more regular life," he stated, citing the high vaccination rates. "Ensuring that every person in Australia has access to vaccine boosters to help maintain the best possible protection against serious disease or death is a critical element of this process," Morrison said. "Vaccine boosters are recommended for everyone in Australia to ensure that we can keep each and every one of us safe." Six months following their second vaccination, every Australian over the age of 18 is eligible for a booster shot.

More than 1,600 new locally acquired coronavirus infections and seven deaths were reported in Australia on Friday. 92 percent of Australians aged 16 and up have got one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, and 86 percent have been fully vaccinated. Australian officials are cooperating with the World Health Organization to investigate a new variety discovered in South Africa, according to Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt.
