New Delhi: Corona infection is affecting adults as well as children at a rapid pace. On Thursday, the Centre issued new corona guidelines for children under the age of 18. A group of experts on the increasing cases of corona caused by the omicron variant reviewed the first guideline on the corona. Thereafter, many new things have been incorporated into this guideline for children. According to the same new guidelines, if steroids are used, the dose should be reduced in 10-14 days. The Centre has laid more emphasis on post-corona care. Masks are not required for children aged 5 and under. Children in the age group of 6-11 years should wear masks properly in the care of their parents, those aged 12 and above should wear masks just like adults. At the same time, the Ministry said that in asymptomatic and mild cases, antimicrobial drugs have not been advised for therapy or prophylaxis. Even after the severity of the virus, it has not been advised to use antiviral or monoclonal antibodies for children under the age of 18.

Highlights of the new guidelines- A corona patient should wear a three-layer mask. Steroid use has not been advised. Steroids are said to be harmful in asymptomatic and mild cases of the corona. Steroids have been advised to use at the right time, in the right dose and for the fixed day. Corticosteroids can be used in all mild and serious cases. It can be continued for 5 to 7 days on medical grounds. According to the guidelines, steroids should be avoided in the first three to five days since the onset of symptoms as it prolongs viral shedding.

Post-Covid Care- Children with asymptomatic and mild symptoms should be properly monitored, vaccinated (if eligible), and nutrition. Parents or carers of children suffering from corona due to hospital leave should constantly monitor their respiratory problems. The child should try to get back to the normal routine.
