NEW DELHIl As per data released on Monday, March 10, by the Union Health Ministry, India has been witnessing an increase in daily Covid-19 cases as the country reported 5,880 new infections in the past 24 hours.
With this, there are now 35,199 active cases throughout the nation.

Thus far, a total of 5,30,979 people have died to the Covid  infection in India, while 4,41,96,318 persons have been discharged since the pandemic began in 2020.

Epidemiologists said that the rising number of cases of covid does not double every 4-5 days. As a result, more than 5000 instances of covid are being reported every day.

Scientists concluded that the covid-19 variation XBB.1.16 is to blame for the current spike in covid cases due to an uptick in the trend of covid cases. However, they say that people in India have developed hybrid immunity (due to vaccination and natural infection), hence, the present covid-19 variants will not be able cause hospitalization and severity as it is mild in nature.

The government has suggested people wear masks in crowded places and complete their vaccination doses if not done yet.

In the meantime, the state/UT government was instructed by the union health ministry to use a risk assessment-based strategy to stop and contain the virus. The health ministry recommended the state governments assess the covid-19 situation at the local level (districts and sub-districts) and to keep their attention on putting the required measures in place for quick and effective management of covid-19 while also assuring effective compliance.
