COVID update: 88 children among 443 new cases in Mizoram

Mizoram reported 443 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, up from 96 the day before, bringing the state's total to 1,42,691, according to a health department official.

The death toll has risen to 553 as another person from Aizawl district died to the infection in the last 24 hours. He added the single-day positive rate fell to 13.38 percent from 15.66 percent the day before.

The newly infected persons along with at least 88 children and 21 Border Security Force (BSF) jawans. According to him, Aizawl district had the newest cases, with 134, followed by Serchhip district (122) and Mamit district (51). According to the official, the number of active cases has increased to 2,162, with 112 persons recovering from the virus in the previous 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,39,976.

COVID-19 patients had a 98 percent recovery rate and a 0.38 percent death rate. More than 15.14 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 across the state so far, with 3,311 samples tested on Tuesday. Over 7.31 lakh people have been inoculated, with 5.90 lakh receiving the full dose as of Tuesday, according to state vaccination officer Dr Lalzawmi.
