In the last 3 years of the coronavirus pandemic, India has reported more than 44.9 million cases and 5,31, 778 deaths.
Health professionals said currently admissions are taking place in those individuals who are elderly and have comorbid conditions. Hence, people need to take their booster dose if not done yet.

Scientists believe that the XBB.1.16 variation is to blame for recent cases of covid; nevertheless, because of Indians' development of a hybrid immunity as a result of vaccination and naturally occurring infection, cases have been less severe. However, the government has urged individuals to finish their vaccinations and continue wearing masks in busy areas.

States and union territories must use a risk assessment-based strategy to stop and contain the virus, according to a directive from the health ministry. The ministry has urged state governments to assess the covid-19 situation at the local level (districts and sub-districts) and to keep their attention on putting the essential measures in place for timely and effective covid-19 management while also ensuring effective compliance.
