COVID-19: India logs 58,097 fresh cases, 500 plusdeaths

New Delhi: In the last 24 hours, India has seen 58,097 new cases of the novel coronavirus, with 534 deaths as a result of the infection. According to data released by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, the country saw a total of 15,389 discharges in the last 24 hours, bringing the total recovery rate to roughly 98.1% and total recoveries to 3,43,21,803.


According to government data released today, the overall number of active COVID-19 cases in India has risen to 2,14,004. So far, the Nationwide Vaccination Drive has administered about 147.72 crore vaccine doses. The country's total death toll today stands at 4,82,551. The first death from the COVID epidemic was recorded in India in March 2020.

Up till January 4, 68,38,17,242 samples had been tested for COVID-19, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). On Tuesday, 13,88,647 of these samples were examined.

Meanwhile, in light of the escalating number of cases of COVID-19's Omicron variant, the Kerala government issued a host of directives on Tuesday to stem the spread of the virus, including limiting the number of people who can attend various cultural and social gatherings. The COVID-19 assessment meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, resolved to limit the number of persons who can attend closed room weddings, funerals, political, social, and cultural events to 75.
