New Delhi: COVID-19 immunisation drives for beneficiaries between the ages of 15 and 18 are set to commence across the country on Monday. The vaccine for the age group 15-18 years will begin on January 3, 2022, as declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2021, while the administration of the precautionary third dose for the vulnerable categories will begin on January 10, 2022.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had instructed the States and Union Territories that only 'Covaxin' is to be administered in this demographic category, and that additional doses of 'Covaxin' will be sent to all States and UTs in the context of the vaccination of the age range 15-18 years.

Potential recipients can register on the Co-WIN site starting January 1, 2022, or walk-in registration will be available when immunisation begins today. Those born in 2007 or before will be eligible for immunisation under this category, according to the Health Ministry's official announcement.

For the 15-18 year old age group, all established vaccination protocols must be followed; beneficiaries must wait half an hour before being monitored for adverse event following immunisation , and they will only be eligible for the second dose after 28 days.
