Assam's COVID-19 cases have declined, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the state's curfew would start at 11 p.m. on February 1 since there have been nearly no deaths related to the Omicron.  Sarma said that as Omicron appears to have a low death rate, the government will change the curfew hours. He also mentioned that the rate of hospitalisation is less than 12%, which is good in terms of the state's COVID-19 situation.

"With the situation under control, the government is considering certain relaxations in the state." However, if the state observes a severe variant of the virus or people in critical condition, more limits may be imposed," the CM added.

He went on to say that in order to contain the virus, containment zones may be declared in areas where the virus has risen over average levels, but there would be no harsh restrictions, allowing people to go about their daily lives as usual. On Sunday, Assam observed a drop in COVID-19 cases, with a total of 2277 new cases reported.
