New Delhi: A Covishield vaccine has been successful in the Monkey Trial against the Nipah virus. Yes, in fact, an international team of researchers has claimed this. You all must be aware that the Nipah virus (NIV) is re-emerging these days, and its cases are increasing rapidly. It causes serious infections in humans. Let me tell all of you that last week it killed a 12-year-old boy in Kerala amidst the growth of covid, although all the high-risk contacts of the deceased have been reported negative.
Let me tell all of you that the surrounding states have been put on high alert for the disease. In 2018, 17 out of 18 people were killed in the virus outbreak in the state. No vaccine against Nipah has now been approved at present. Let me tell you all that researchers from oxford university and the US national institute of health examined the efficacy of CHADOX1 NIV in eight African green monkeys. He published the research, which means that it is yet to be reviewed in its entirety. Let us also tell all of you that CHADOX1 NIV is based on a vector similar to CHADOX1 NCOV-19, it has been approved for emergency use in more than 60 countries around the world and 100 million people have been given doses.
In fact, a group of four monkeys was given two shots (doses) or one shot of CHADOX1 NIV, the other group was injected with dummy protein (CHADOX1 GFP) and was again vectored by CHADOX1. At the same time, all the eight monkeys were already or artificially infected with the real Nipah virus through some nose and through other throats.
A strong humoral and cellular response was detected after 14 days of initial vaccination. However, when artificially infected with the Nipah virus, the controlled animals showed a variety of symptoms. On the other hand, the researchers said, "On the contrary, vaccinated animals did not show any symptoms of the disease and we were unable to detect infectious viruses in all except a sweb and all tissues."
