The central government has opened up vaccination for all above the age of 18 from May 1. Lately, the centre held meeting with manufacturers of vaccine regarding the reports of production. In the meeting it was decided that 50 percent of vaccines will be given to private sector and it’s price range will be disclosed by the makers only.

India is one of the world’s most populous countries which heads for a massive vaccination drive. Vaccine leader Serum Institute of India (SII), which produces the Astrazeneca and Oxford vaccine called Covishield in India, has announced its pricing plans for Indian citizens. The hospital cost per dose for state hospital is ₹400 whereas for private hospital it is revealed as ₹600. However, the company said that its vaccines will still be more affordable than foreign jabs, which cost anywhere from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 a shot. The vaccines will continue to be made available through state-facilitated machinery and private health systems. Also, the centre will continue to receive Covishield doses at Rs 150 each, which means it will be cheapest to get a vaccine shot from central government hospitals or establishments.

On Wednesday morning, India has reported 2.95 lakh fresh active cases and 2,023 deaths in the last 24 hours. Several cities in India are under curfew restrictions, while the country’s national capital Delhi is under lockdown until April 26.
