New Delhi:  CoWIN CEO and CEO of the National Health Authority, Dr. RS Sharma said the COVID-19 vaccine platform Co-WIN will be repurposed   as a platform for universal immunisation, blood donation, and later, it will be utilised for organ donation.

"CoWin is currently being repurposed to serve as a platform for universal immunisation, blood donation, and maybe organ donation in the future. I believe we will gradually work toward achieving these goals, but you must understand that technology is but a tool; the legal system, the ecosystem, and other systems ultimately take precedence. Within those systems, it must function "said Sharma.

Sharma, a Chairman of the Empowered Group of Vaccine Administration (EGVAC), spoke about the desire of other nations to use the CoWin app "The global digital CoWin conference was held the previous year. There were, at least, 140 countries represented there, and many of them started talking to us about it following the conclave."

"Adoption of the DPIs by the ecosystem partners is a bit challenging, and it takes slow to start. But I believe there are other additional reasons, such as the advancement of systems and software, that contribute to the slowness. So that might be one of the causes, but adoption is typically difficult.  For instance, digital health mission or Ayushman Bharat Digital health mission," NHA CEO added.
