It is noteworthy that JNU students have been agitating against the increase in fees for a long time. On Monday, JNU students marched to Parliament to protest the fee hike. Police had earlier planted barricades near Safdarjung mausoleum to stop the students of the procession heading towards Parliament House. At the same time, the students gathered near the Safdarjung mausoleum to continue their protest. They shouted slogans demanding the withdrawal of the fee hike.
The students ended the picket after the Union Human Resource Minister gave assurances late in the evening. Sources said that the picket was ended between 7.30 am and 8 pm. A delegation of students then met Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', the Minister of Human Resources. The minister has assured to withdraw the fee hike.
