New Delhi: CPIM leader and former president of the JNU Students Union Kanhaiya Kumar is likely to take over the Congress soon. According to Congress sources, Kanhaiya is in constant touch with the Congress and has met Rahul Gandhi. Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani is also in touch with the Congress high command.

It may be recalled that the Congress had helped Mevani in the last assembly elections by not fielding a candidate from the Vadgam seat in Banaskantha district of north Gujarat. The Congress wants to meet the shortage of young leaders who have recently resigned from the party by inducing both these leaders into the party. According to sources close to Kanhaiya Kumar, in CPIM he is feeling suffocated. He had met Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.

It is believed that Kanhaiya Kumar may soon take over the Congress. When questioned about reports of Kumar leaving CPIM, CPIM General Secretary D Raja said that he has also heard the news in this regard. All I want to say is that he attended the party's national executive meeting held earlier this month, he said. He spoke at the meeting and shared his views on a number of issues.
