Bengal election: CPIM worker killed in car collision in Murshidabad

Kolkata: One person was killed and two others injured when a car collided in Murshidabad district before voting began in the eighth and final phase of West Bengal assembly elections. The incident has created tension in the area. Police have informed in this regard on Thursday. He said the incident took place around 10.30 pm on Wednesday at Shahbazpur village of Domkal police station area.

However, CPIM alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate Jafikul Islam hit CPIM workers with a car, killing its workers Kadar Mandal (42) and injuring Asim Al Mamun (43) and Lal Chand Mandal (42) in the incident. Islam is a Trinamool candidate from Domkal. He has termed the allegations as absurd and claimed that he was far away from the scene at the time of the incident.

Police said, an investigation has been launched to trace those responsible behind the incident. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has sought a report from the district authorities on the incident. An official of the CEO office said, "We have sought a report from the district election officer regarding the incident. Those behind the incident will be nabbed soon."
