Cricket is resuming around the world, cricket is going to return to India soon. It is very likely that a decision will be taken on this coming July 17. On one side there will be talk of the return of Team India's international cricket, while the possibility is also being raised that there can be a big decision regarding the IPL as well. Meanwhile, the news is that Alka Rehani Bhardwaj, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) representative in the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI), has asked the board to ensure that only qualified officials are involved in the July 17 meeting to address the issue. There is a need to put it on the agenda, because the tenure of the board president, vice-secretary has either expired or is ending soon.

BCCI has asked the apex court to extend the tenure of its chairman Sourav Ganguly, Secretary Jai Shah, Joint Secretary Jayesh George as well as exemption from the mandatory adaptation period (cooling-off period). The post of vice-president is lying vacant due to the resignation of Mahim Verma after taking charge of Uttarakhand cricket. All BCCI officials are members of the apex council.

Alka, in an e-mail sent to all members of the council, said that as per the pending hearing on the adaptation period of the Supreme Court, the reorganization of the apex committee due to the termination of the term of the Vice-President / Secretary / Chairman in the BCCI was called.

Sourav Ganguly took office in October last year, his adaptation period will begin on July 27. If the top court does not hear the matter, then they will have to leave their posts. Shah, who took charge with Sourav Ganguly, has reportedly completed his tenure. According to the BCCI constitution, an officer is required to compulsorily go into the adaptation period after two consecutive terms in the union of the state or the board or both. Alka said that the chairman and joint secretary (who will play the role after the removal of the post of secretary from the BCCI) should ensure that only the members who are eligible according to the constitution participate in the fourth meeting of the apex council should be invited to the meeting. The fourth meeting of the Apex Committee will discuss the finalization of India's revised Future Tour Program (FTP) domestic session.

In the wake of the covid-19 epidemic, this meeting will also be held online as the previous meeting on May 6. The issue related to Chinese sponsorship in the IPL can also be discussed in the council meeting. However, in any matter related to the IPL, the decision making authority is only with its Steering Committee which has decided to call a meeting to review the sponsorship of China-linked companies in the wake of the clash with China in Galwan valley last month. However, the date of the meeting is not fixed. The Indian team last landed on the field in the first week of March.

The team was scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in August for Zimbabwe in July for a limited-overs series but these series were postponed due to the Covid-19 epidemic. Coronavirus cases are increasing rapidly in India, so it is not clear yet when players can gather for practice camp. Some players, however, have started net practice in person. The agenda of the meeting includes discussion on finalizing the domestic cricket program.

The final of the Ranji Trophy was played in March before the nationwide lockdown was implemented. After this, the Irani Cup was postponed indefinitely. If the IPL is planned to be held in October-November, it is likely that the domestic session will be shortened. Last month, the International Cricket Council (ICC) gave the BCCI time till December to decide on the demand for tax exemption for the next (2021) T20 World Cup be held in India. A BCCI official told PTI that this issue will also be discussed. Apart from this, 'issues related to Bihar Cricket Association' will be discussed in the council.
