Chennai: In a police confrontation on Thursday, two gang members reportedly involved in the murders of two people in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu district were killed.

Appu Karthik, a resident of KK street, was allegedly killed with a machete after a three-member group allegedly hurled country bombs at him near a tea store. Within 10 minutes of the first murder, the gang fled the scene and hacked Mahesh, a resident of Mettu Street, to death in his home.

On Thursday night, Chengalpattu Police said that two members of the gang had been apprehended. The suspects allegedly had country bombs in their possession, which they flung at the cops, wounding two officers. In retaliation, the police opened fire on them, killing both of the accused.

The police have now killed two members of this group in a shootout, and the third suspect is being sought. The gang murders had sparked fear in the region, prompting Opposition Leader Edappadi K Palanisamy to address the subject in the assembly, raising concerns about the state's law and order situation. The bodies have been taken to the govt Hospital for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway.
