23 ministers in Nitish govt have criminal cases against them: Reports

Patna: The first cabinet expansion of the Nitish-Tejashwi government took place on Tuesday in Bihar. Due to this, 31 MLAs took oaths as ministers. There are a total of 33 faces in the cabinet, including CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. Of the 33 ministers in the Bihar cabinet, 23 (72 per cent) have criminal cases against them. This has been revealed in the report of the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

The ADR has analysed the affidavits filed by 32 of the 33 cabinet members, including Nitish Kumar, with the Election Commission. JD(U) minister Ashok Choudhary has not filed his affidavit. According to the ADR, 72 per cent of the 33 ministers in the new Bihar government, or 23, have reported criminal cases against themselves. Not only this, 53 per cent of them i.e. 17 have serious criminal cases against them. In Bihar, 31 ministers were sworn in on Tuesday. Of these, 16 belonged to the Rashtriya Janata Dal. At the same time, 11 MLAs of Janata Dal-United, 2 of Congress, 1 of HAM and 1 of Independent MLA took oath as ministers. According to the ADR report, 15 or 88 per cent of the 17 Rashtriya Janata Dal ministers (including Tejashwi Yadav) have criminal cases against them. At the same time, 4 out of 11 ministers of Janata Dal-United have cases against them. Both congress ministers have criminal cases against them. At the same time, cases are also registered against HAM and independent ministers also have criminal cases against them.

At the same time, talking about serious criminal cases, 11 out of 17 ministers of Rashtriya Janata Dal have serious criminal cases against them. While 2 MLAs of Janata Dal-United, 1 of Congress, 1 of HAM and an Independent MLA also have serious criminal cases against them. Serious criminal cases are considered to be those which carry a minimum sentence of 5 years and are non-bailable. Cases of murder, assault, rape, and kidnapping are counted among the serious criminal cases. Of the ministers inducted in the Nitish government, 27 are crorepatis. 16 or 94 per cent of Rashtriya Janata Dal ministers are crorepatis. While 9 ministers of Janata Dal-United and 1 minister of HAM are crorepatis. The Independent minister is also a crorepati. The average assets of 32 ministers are Rs 5.82 crore. Congress' Murari Prasad Gautam has the least assets worth Rs 17.66 crore.
