New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi last Saturday. Apart from him, two other senior Congress leaders, P Chidambaram and Jairam Ramesh, have also joined him. In a scathing tweet last Friday, Rahul Gandhi had said, "No vaccine. Lowest GDP. Highest covid deaths, Government of India react? The PM cries".

Not only that, he had accused PM Modi of shedding "crocodile tears" in tribute to those who died of COVID. In fact, on his Twitter handle, Rahul Gandhi also shared a chart on the global economic situation and the epidemic situation, which was tweeted by Kaushik Basu, former Chief Economic Advisor to the Central Government. That chart shows India's GDP at minus eight against Bangladesh's 3.8, China's 1.9 and Pakistan's O.4. At the same time, the chart showed India as the victim of 212 deaths in every million population of COVID-19 as compared to 0.4 in Vietnam and two deaths in China.

In another tweet, Rahul Gandhi wrote, "Due to mismanagement of Modi system, India has a covid epidemic as well as black fungus epidemic". In a tweet in Hindi, he wrote, "With the shortage of medicines for covid, there is also a huge shortage of medicines for this major disease in India. The Prime Minister will soon announce 'Clap and beat Thali' to tackle the disease". Following his tweet, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had tweeted, "The country needs vaccines and not crocodile tears".

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram had also warned the government that the Union Health Minister's claim to get 2.16 crore vaccine doses to vaccinate the entire adult population by December 31 should be supported. So far, it's not. We need data on capacity of domestic producers, orders for vaccine, import contracts, agreed time-table of delivery, etc. Nothing has been disclosed so far. This is not the first time, however, but has long criticized the Congress government's vaccination policy and the slow pace of vaccination.
