DANTEWADA: A head constable from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) took his own life on Monday in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when Head Constable Vipin Chandra, a member of the CRPF's 195th battalion, reportedly used his AK-47 rifle to shoot himself in the barracks. The incident took place at the battalion’s headquarters, situated under Barsoor police station, approximately 400 kilometers from Dantewada.
According to officials, Chandra shot himself in the neck. Hearing the gunshot, his fellow personnel rushed to the scene and transported him to the district hospital in Dantewada, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. An investigation is currently underway to determine the reasons behind this tragic event.
The CRPF, India’s largest paramilitary force, plays a critical role in the south Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, including Dantewada, in efforts against Left Wing Extremism.
