Cybercrime: ATM card Cloning mastermind arrested, seized 25 lakh cash and 50 fake ATM

In the past few months, many unsuspecting citizens were made the victim of cybercrime in Chennai. After a massive hunt by Kolkata cybercrime unit, police arrested three alleged masterminds behind ATM cloning and theft.

 It was revealed that the three accused obtained the 16 digit ATM card numbers from victims by making fake phone calls saying that they were representatives from a banking agency providing services to customers. Kolkata cybercrime police received the complaints regarding such thefts and registered a case. The three accused were identified as 22-year-old Vijayakumar Mandal, 23-year-old Jugendra Kumar Mandal and 25-year-old Bhaskar Kumar, natives from Jharkand. They had committed robberies across the country using fake ATM cards. They were arrested from a posh hotel at Chepauk, Chennai by Triplicane Police along with Kolkata cybercrime unit. Approximately Rs 25 cash and nearly 50 fake ATM cards were recovered from them.

The probe led them to Chennai and the team arrived in the state capital to track the accused using their cell phone numbers with the help of Chennai Police commissioner. The team then obtained information about the three criminals staying in a hotel located at Chepauk, Chennai.

However with the help of Triplicane station police force, they surrounded the hotel and arrested the accused. Bhaskar Kumar initially gave the cops a slip but the remaining two had been apprehended. Chennai police commissioner raised alert to police stations around the area to arrest the escaped accused and he too was caught soon.
