New Delhi: Cyclone Burevi, which has turned into a low-pressure area, is about to cross the Tamil Nadu coast today. It is expected that Burevi will reach the coast of Thiruvananthapuram today or Friday afternoon. A public holiday has been declared in many districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu today. Simultaneously, Thiruvananthapuram, Madurai and Tuticorin Airport will remain closed till noon.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rains in Kerala due to the impact of Cyclone Burevi. In view of the cyclone here, the Thiruvananthapuram district administration has put security in the coastal areas. Disaster Management Units have been deployed. In view of the threat of cyclone, 26 teams of National Disaster Rescue Team have been prepared in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari and Kerala. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and South Kerala. In view of the warning of cyclonic storm, administration in both the states has advised fishermen not to go to the beach.

The government of Tamil Nadu has declared a public holiday in 6 districts of the state, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar and Tuticorin. With the arrival of the Burevi cyclone in Kerala, there is a possibility of heavy rains and that is why the state government has announced a holiday in five districts on Friday.
