Cyclone 'Gulab': 2 killed, 5 missing, heavy rain alert for Vizag, Vijayawada

Cyclone Gulab has started showing its havoc. A red alert has been issued in several states over the rains. Last Sunday night, a rose cyclone hit the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and after the storm hit, there were high waves in the sea and heavy rain also lashed many areas. It is said that winds of 75 to 85 kmph gusting to 75 to 85 kmph were blowing and heavy rain lashed the coastal areas.

Two fishermen from Srikakulam district of Andhra were killed while six fishermen are said to be missing. At the same time, there are reports that about 39,000 people have been evacuated to safer places in Odisha. At present, the Indian Navy is constantly monitoring the cyclonic storm and ships and aircraft have been kept ready for relief and rescue operations.

Two Naval ships are said to be stationed in the sea with relief material. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and assured the Centre of help in dealing with any situation arising out of cyclone 'Gulab'. Let us also tell all of you that today a heavy rain alert has been issued in many States including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana, Maharashtra.

The Met department has predicted heavy rain for two days. According to Kolkata Meteorological Department official GK Das, heavy rain is likely to occur in South Bengal on September 28-29 and it is also being said that Maharashtra will also see its impact.
