CHENNAI: Cyclone Michaung: After Cyclone Michaung's rainfall, the Chennai International Airport Authority announced the reopening of the airfield for all arrival and departure operations on Tuesday. This announcement has brought relief to travelers and the aviation community, allowing them to resume their journeys without any disruption.

In a post on X, Chennai (MAA) Airport stated, 'Airfield now open for all arrival and departure operations.'

As per the latest IMD bulletin, North coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are expected to have light to moderate rainfall in most areas and isolated heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning, gradually decreasing afterward.

The airport authority issued an official statement mentioning, 'No water stagnation on Track-while-searches (TWSs) and Range-while scans (RWSs), but there is a significant amount of slush and filth. Four CFTs (Contracted Flying Training and support) have been deployed to clear it, and manpower is engaged in cleaning work.'

They further confirmed, 'All Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance Systems for Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) are functioning normally.'

Meanwhile, airlines and stakeholders have been informed to plan their operations accordingly. AAI (Airports Authority of India) will communicate this information to the general public through social media.

The statement highlighted, 'Air Traffic Management will prioritize departures to clear the stranded passengers at the airport.'

The airport authority also noted that there are currently 21 aircraft on the ground and approximately 1500 passengers in the Terminals."
The F&B Concessionaire has assured that sufficient food supplies are available in their outlets. The Chennai Airport Team has been instructed to maintain the terminals, manage traffic effectively, ensure the availability of trolleys, and uphold all passenger facilities," the statement indicated.

Chennai Police have confirmed the loss of at least eight lives due to the storms that hit the southeast coast.

The expected reduction in rainfall intensity brings a much-needed relief after Cyclone Michaung's destructive impact on Chennai and its nearby districts.

In specific parts of Chennai, residents have observed a halt in rainfall since early Tuesday, reporting the restoration of power services in those areas.
