The Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees would be increased by 3 percent. As per information provided by the source,  the Union Cabinet is set to accept a 3 percent increase in DA for government employees. This DA hike is expected to take effect on January 1, 2022.

Dearness Allowance is a component of government employees' and retirees' salaries that helps to offset the effects of inflation.

After a lengthy period, the Centre boosted the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for central government employees to 28 percent from 17 percent in July 2021. The Dearness Allowance for central government employees increased by 3 percent in October of last year.

To combat rising inflation, the Centre is expected to propose another 3 percent increase in DA and DR for central government employees and retirees. The dearness allowance will increase to 34 percent of the basic income as a result of this. Over 50 lakh government employees and 65 lakh retirees will profit from this move.
