Many rape cases of sexual abuse by Buddhist teacher is coming into light. Addressing the sexual abuse case, The Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama said that he is aware of the sexual abuse by Buddhist teachers since 1990s.

During a four-day visit to the Netherlands , spiritual leader met with victims of sexual abuse allegedly committed by Buddhist teachers on Friday. In a petition filed by victims said that “We found refuge in Buddhism with an open mind and heart, until we were raped in its name”.

In response to the allegation of the victims, Dalai Lama said that he already did know these things and there is nothing new in it. Spiritual leader further added that Twenty-five years ago someone mentioned about a problem of sexual allegations at a conference for western Buddhist teachers in Dharamshala, a hill town in northern India.

According to Dalai Lama, people who commit sexual abuse don’t care about the teachings of Buddha. He said that So now that everything has been made public, people may concern about their shame.

The representative of the Tibetan spiritual leader in Europe, Tseten Samdup Chhoekyapa, said that Dalai Lama has always denounced such irresponsible and unethical behaviour.

Dalai Lama is to make a visit to Dharamshala in November.
