DHARAMSALA: The mountaintop Tsuglagkhang temple near the Dalai Lama's official residence at McLeodganj near here will reopen for visitors on March 3 after nearly two years of closure because to the Covid-19 outbreak, it was announced on Monday.

Losar, or Tibetan New Year Day, begins on March 3 and lasts for a week.

"We suggest that all devotees and visitors follow the preventive practices of wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, and hand sanitization for the sake of all devotees and tourists," Thekchen Choeling Charitable Society stated in a statement.

The reopening of the Tsuglagkhang temple will be marked by special prayers on the first day, according to officials.The Dalai Lama and around 140,000 Tibetans live in exile, with over 100,000 of them in India. This northern Indian hill town is home to the Tibetan exile administration.
