New Delhi, Aug 9: The Bharat Bandh call given by the Dalit groups has been cancelled today. The decision to call of the bandh planned for today was taken back after following the Lok Sabha  step as it passed the SC/ST amendment bill which reversed the Supreme Court judgment.

According to Supreme Court ruling it had diluted certain provisions of the original legislation.

"Our major demand regarding the restoration of the SC\ST Act has been fulfilled" The statement read which is issued by the All India Ambedkar Mahasabha (AIAM)  on Wednesday.

Worth mention here Union Minister Ramdas Athawale had on Wednesday urged to the public not to take part in the August 9 bandh. He also appealed the people to maintain peace and universal brotherhood in the nation.

Expressing gratitude The AIAM thanked the range of political parties for lending their support to the grounds. It stated that it had effectively achieved its first landmark in protecting the law. The dalit groups have deferred the "bandh" and given the PM Modi led government more time to fullfill their other demands. These demands include the release of jailed dalit leaders. The group also said that the new cut-off date will be decided in due course of time.
