World No. 1 tennis player Daniil Medvedev has suffered a defeat in the third round of the Indian Wells Masters. Medvedev was defeated by France's Gael Monfils 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in a 3-set match. With this defeat, Medvedev is set to move down from No. 1 in the upcoming ATP rankings. In his place, Novak Djokovic of Serbia will again become the world No. 1 player.

However, the first set against Gail Monfils was won by Medvedev 6–4. It was expected that he was going to win the match easily. But Monfils broke Medvedev's serve in the sixth game in the second set and won the set 6-3. In the third set, Medvedev appeared to be dashed and made many mistakes and lost the match to Molfils.

Medvedev hit four aces while playing one less double fault (6) against Gayle. But Gayle broke Danil's serve by taking a continuous break point. Gayle had completely dominated Danil in the last set. He won a total of 53 serve points while 77 percent of the first serve was also to his name.
