Legendary actor Dara Singh, who played Hanuman in the Ramayana, had also played this role earlier. His son Vindu told that Chandrakant did the work of making his father Hanuman first in 1976, who made the film Bajrang Bali with Dara Singh. This film was a blockbuster and the father came to be known as Pawan Putra Hanuman in the house.

11 years after the release of Bajrang Bali, Ramanand Sagar made a Ramayan TV show. Vindu says, "When Papaji (Ramanand Sagar) started making Ramayana, Deepika Chikhaliya was the first choice for Sita's role. Arun Govil was not the first choice for Ram. He was elected for some other role but he said that he wants to play only Ram. One night, Papaji appeared in the dream as my father Hanuman. When my father came to this role, he had no option but to do it, because no one refused Papaji."

Vindu says, "My father was 60 years old at that time and after wrestling for years, his knees and shoulders started bothering him. Ramanand Sagar ji convinced him to play the role. He was perfectly fit for the role of Hanumanji". Ramayana itself made Dara Singh the face of Hanuman. Vindu is happy when the Ramayana is telecast again, and he says that Ramayana was the one who brought back the Sagars. My father played Hanuman's role only once more in BR Chopra's Mahabharata, but he was quite young.

As long as Dara Singh was there, he was the first choice for Hanuman's role. Vindu was succeeded by him. In 1996, he was offered a role for the TV show Jai Veer Hanuman. Vindu says, "I was hesitant about how I would be able to play the role that my father has played, but I took it as a challenge. Now I am called every year in Delhi by Ramleela to play Hanuman."
