Govt orders probe into Assam violence as 'Darrang Shut Down' announced

Guwahati: The situation has become tense following clashes between police and local citizens who reached Darrang district of Assam to clear encroachments. A large number of security forces have been deployed in the Balua Ghat area of the Dholpur area. On the other hand, several organisations, including the All Assam Minorities Students Union, have called for a 12-hour shut down in the Darrang district to protest against Thursday's violent clashes.

Tension prevails in the area. In view of the tense situation, the administration has deployed heavy security forces in the area. In this regard, an eyewitness Sukur Ali said that I was there when the incident took place. According to Sukur, the incident took place in Dholpur number one and Dholpur number three where some people pelted stones at the security forces. Security forces had arrived to remove the encroachments. According to eyewitness Sukur, some villagers also attacked the security forces.

Meanwhile, police have camped a short distance from the spot in view of tension in the area following the incident. Tension is still prevailing in the Dholpur area. Heavy security forces have been deployed in the area. The district administration has set up temporary camps of police and the central reserve police force (CEPF). Assam's Himanta Biswa Sarma government has ordered a judicial inquiry into the firing incident in Dholpur during an anti-encroachment drive in the Darrang district.
