NEW DELHI: The Indian tennis team has finally postponed its visit to Pakistan due to security reasons due to the tension between India and Pakistan over Kashmir. The International Tennis Federation has retained the Davis Cup. India had repeatedly appealed for the transfer or postponement of the fight amid heightened diplomatic tensions between the two countries, after which the Davis Cup Committee of the ITF decided to postpone the match after the meeting.

The new dates will be known until 9th September. The ITF said it was suspending the fight under 'extraordinary circumstances'. "After an in-depth security review of the current situation in Pakistan by independent expert security advisors, the Davis Cup Committee will hold a Davis Cup Asia/Pakistan Meeting between India and Pakistan on September 14-15 in Islamabad," the ITF said in a statement. The Oceania Group has decided to postpone the one-match match.

"The committee has come to the conclusion that this is an extraordinary situation and the first priority of the ITF is the safety of players, officials, and spectators. The match will now take place in November and the dates will be confirmed by 9th September."

The ITF said it will continue to monitor the situation in Pakistan and will meet again to re-assess the security situation in the Davis Cup committee. It was only after India's move on Jammu and Kashmir that there was speculation about the conduct of the match. Pakistan reacted very sharply.
