New Delhi: The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will consider opening schools today in view of the declining cases in the capital. Further relaxations in coronavirus restrictions in Delhi may also be given. A senior Delhi government official said that on February 4, the DDMA will hold a meeting to review the corona situation in Delhi and brainstorm on the reopening of schools and other relaxations.
In the last meeting, the Kejriwal government in Delhi had recommended reopening of schools, saying it was necessary to open schools to prevent the loss of education of children. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had said the government had closed schools when it was not safe for children, but "extreme caution" was harming them. He had also said that online education cannot take the place of classroom studies.
However, in view of the infection situation, the administration had not allowed the opening of educational institutions, but it may be directed in the meeting to be held today. In most of the states, educational institutions have opened since the first week of February. In Delhi too, the demand for the opening of schools is gaining momentum. After today's meeting, it will be clear whether schools will be able to open from Monday, February 7 or they will be kept closed for now.
