Islamabad: Pakistan has arrested Sajid Mir, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. An anti-terrorism court in Lahore has sentenced Sajid Mir to 15 years in prison. Earlier this month, an anti-terrorism court in Lahore sentenced Sajid Mir, a terrorist of the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, to 15 years in jail, a senior lawyer associated with terrorism has told. This sentence was given to him in the terror funding case.

Sajid Mir's name is included in the FBI's list of most wanted terrorists. From the very beginning, Pakistan has denied the presence of Sajid Mir. The Pakistani government even claimed that Mir was dead. But now after his arrest, it is being said that Pakistan wants to wash away the stain of terror from the custody of Sajid. The US agency FBI has announced a reward of five million dollars on Sajid Mir. Both the US and India have been searching for terrorist Mir for almost a decade. Sajid Mir is a member of the UN banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. Sajid Mir is also the mastermind of 26/11 attacks in Mumbai. About 170 people died in this attack. These included mainly Indians, six Americans and tourists from many places including Japan.

According to a Nikkei Asia report, an FBI official said on condition of anonymity that Sajid Mir is alive, in custody and sentenced in Pakistan. A former Pakistani official has told that Pakistan had told India and the US that Mumbai attack accused Sajid Mir is either dead or his whereabouts are not known. However, Pakistan has still not officially informed about Mir's arrest. Deputy Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar told Nikkei Asia that she would not comment on the matter.
