Neerja Bhanot is an Indian girl who is respected not only in India but also in the neighbouring country Pakistan. Neerja died 33 years ago by the hands of terrorists. In fact, on 5 September 1986, the hijackers hijacked PAN AM 73 flight from Karachi. Nirja Bhanot was posted as the main air hostess in the flight. Neerja put her life at stake to save the passengers of this plane. During this period, 20 people including Neerja Bhanot were killed and more than a hundred passengers were injured.
There were a total of 379 passengers on this flight. Neerja was only 22 years old at the time of this incident. Neerja was also a model apart from her job as an Air Hostess. She also modelled for some brands. She lived with her mother and father apart from her husband. On 5 September 1986, Nirja was boarding a PAN AM 73 flight from Mumbai to the US. Shortly after the flight reached Karachi, it was hijacked. All of these were associated with the Abu Nidal Organization of Libya. Their purpose was to kill the Americans on the plane.
The terrorists wanted to release their Palestinian colleagues from prison. The terrorists wanted to crash a flight full of 369 passengers. Neerja fought the terrorists firmly. Neerja tried to convince the terrorists but she did not agree. Seeing her indomitable courage, the Government of India honoured her posthumously with the Ashoka Chakra. Her bravery was praised by neighbouring Pakistan and they honoured Neerja with the 'Tamgha-e-Insaniyat' honour. The film was also made in 2016 on this issue in Bollywood. In which actress Sonam Kapoor played her character. Neerja Bhanot will be a role model for the younger generation.
